Amanda hasn’t been herself with our return to Maine quickly approaching and T.J. not looking forward to leaving Aubrey. I know she’s also feeling the stress and pressure of our upcoming wedding. What I haven’t mentioned to her is that she’s acting like a pregnant woman. I only know this because I’ve developed the habit of dedicating a large portion of my morning to internet research on the subject. If my calculations are correct, she conceived the first night we arrived. If I’m right, our little bundle is about the size of a small blueberry. She has tiny little arm buds already and by next week, she’ll be a raspberry with webbed fingers and toes. And yes, I’m convinced she’s a baby girl.

I return to our bedroom to find Amanda still curled up under the sheets. T.J. is off with Pete and Raina, he never wants to leave Aubrey’s side for long, so I knew Amanda must have been taking advantage of the lazy morning.

The room smells of her as I inhale a deep breath that catches in my throat at the beauty of her sleeping peacefully on her side with her hands curled under her chin. She’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. Well, her and T.J. I can’t wait for this wedding and the court system to approve the adoption. Not that the little man knows the difference. Since being around Aubrey so much and hearing her practicing calling her parents, mama and dada, he’s slipped a few times and called me daddy. I swear my heart swelled more than the Grinch’s in the presence of little Cindy Lou Who.

Amanda senses my presence in the room and rolls over to face me. “Hey, baby,” she says, her voice groggy with sleep. “I slept in.”

“I see that,” I state as I sit on the edge of the bed. “You and Raina were up late. Girl’s night was fun?”

Amanda groans. “Yeah, but I feel bad that she got up with the kids. We should take them for ice cream or something tonight and give her and Pete a break.”

“Sure,” I say then catch something in Amanda’s demeanor. “Everything okay?”

She shrugs. “I don’t want to upset you. You know it’s not a romantic thing with Elliot, right?”

I nod. But fuck if it doesn’t kill me to hold back the green monster.

“Raina is really getting worried about him and so am I.”

“No one has heard from him yet?”

“No. Raina has spoken to Courtney a few times and she hasn’t heard from him either. Neither have Ace or Callan. Raina’s dad is still neck deep connected and he can’t seem to find out anything.”

“I’m sure it’s just because he’s licking his wounds and doesn’t want to be found. I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”

Amanda shrugs and I pull her into my arms and nuzzle into her neck. I let my tongue run the shell of her ear. “You know, T.J. isn’t here to walk in on us.”

Amanda smiles into my chest as her hands run over my pecs, one of her favorite parts of my body.
